I could go by many different labels—teacher, daughter, wife, writer, friend, sister—but how I choose to define myself has been a struggle for me since I gained the cancer survivor tag at age 12. Consequently, identity is the central issue in my writing.  And I’ve learned that while it’s an essential definition to everyone around me, I personally find it elusive, variable, restrictive.  For now, just let me be Victoria.
